“I have a question”

That’s something I find myself saying a lot - whether in conversations with friends or at work. It’s usually not limited to a single question though… People often joke that casual conversations with me can feel like the spanish inquisition. Asking a barrage of questions is my way to learn about, and from, others. (So it’s no surprise that user interviews are one of my favourite parts of the design process.)

My natural curiosity comes out in other ways in the digital world. Once in a while, I will stumble upon an experience that feels extraordinarily seamless or delightful, one that I will become instantly obsessed with. I will likely spend hours in an internet hole exploring the product, reading about it, writing about it, and might even cold email the CEO… All that to say that good design really excites me and reminds me of why I chose to pursue a career in this field.

A visual representation of how I feel when I stumble upon good design.

A bit of background

I was born and raised in Bombay, India. While doing my undergrad in the US, I had the good fortune of spending a semester abroad in Copenhagen - where I was first exposed to how good (urban) design can positively impact your life. Shortly after graduating, I followed my natural instincts into the design world and taught myself everything I needed to be able to land an apprenticeship with a designer. One thing lead to another, and I am now living in London working as a product designer.

NERDING OUT

Inspired by growth.design’s UX case studies, I decided to take a stab at doing a couple myself. I spent multiple hours knee deep in the products, understanding and evaluating the unique user journeys, and then ideating ways to improve the user experience based on cognitive biases and UX principles. Here are links to some of them:

Paying it forward

I am eternally grateful for the generosity of the design community - countless humans have helped me get to where I am today. Throughout my design journey, I spent a lot of time reading articles, watching videos, and just googling my way through things. This is a compilation of resources that have been most useful to me, and I hope they will help someone else out there.
